Motorcyclist Killed in Las Vegas Accident
Wednesday, February 03, 2010
A man has been killed in a motorcycle accident in Las Vegas. According to Las Vegas Now, the accident occurred on Monday. News reports say that the motorcyclist seemed to have been speeding along with another motorcycle. At some point on Lorenzi Street, the motorcyclist struck a car’s bumper, skidding more than 150 feet before coming to a stop. The other motorcyclist fled the scene of the accident. Police are waiting to talk to him to hear his account of the accident.
An investigation into the accident will reveal if the two motorcyclists were speeding, or if the second motorcyclist had anything to do with the first one losing control of his bike. As motorcycle accident attorneys in Las Vegas, we are aware that excessive speeds are a factor in motorcycle accidents. Motorcycles may seem like they were built for high speeds, but the fact is that when a rider loses control, the results can be devastating.
However, speed is a minor factor in motorcycle accidents. A majority of these crashes occur because of motorist negligence. In fact, motorist failure to yield to motorcyclists is the single biggest factor in motorcycle crashes. Motorists must take care when they make turns at intersections to prevent a motorcyclist from hitting their car. Unfortunately, most crashes get blamed on motorcyclist recklessness or high speeds, regardless of whether these contributed to the accident or not. Motorcyclists are not exactly the most popular users of Las Vegas roads. Ask any motorcyclist about his experiences, and he will tell you of the barely veiled anger, impatience and frustration with which many motorists treat him.
This is not to say that motorcyclists are never to blame for these accidents. Speed can definitely cause a motorcyclist to lose control. Besides, motorcyclists must always wear approved helmets, and only begin riding after they undertake a motorcycle safety program. There are too many inexperienced motorcyclists who think all they need to begin riding is a motorcycle and a helmet. Undergoing a proper safety training course can help a motorcyclist learn safe riding practices that help him ride home safely.

Las Vegas Police Still Looking for Suspect in Motorcycle Accident
Monday, January 04, 2010
Las Vegas police are continuing their search for a Hispanic male who is accused of causing a motorcycle accident that killed one person in March this year. Now, Stop DUI has increased the initial reward of $2,000 for information leading to the arrest of Carolos Henriquez, to $5,000.
On March 19th, Henriquez was allegedly driving under the influence when he crashed his truck into a motorcycle. The two motorcyclists, couple James and Debbie Corrao, sustained injuries. James succumbed to his injuries. Henriquez was arrested, and released from jail soon after. He never made it to his next court appearance.
The Corrao family has appealed to anyone who has any information on Hneriquez’s whereabouts to contact police. They are hoping the newly increased reward money will be an incentive for informants.
Motorcycle crash fatality rates have been on an upward swing over the past few years, and Las Vegas has been no exception. The Federal Highway Administration recently announced the launch of a new study into the causes of motorcycle accidents. The study will take years to complete, and so, as Las Vegas motorcycle accident lawyers, we would like to go out on a limb here, and define the reasons for this steep price in motorcycle accident fatalities.
- There are more numbers of registered motorcycles than there used to be.
- A large percentage of motorcyclists these days tend to be men above the age of 50 who haven’t ridden a motorcycle in years. This lack of experience can prove deadly.
- Today’s motorcycles are powerful machines, unlike the clunky, cumbersome machines of yore. The combination of older motorcyclists and powerful machines has led to devastating consequences.
- Motorists these days are exposed to more numbers of distractions, especially in the form of cell phones. The biggest casualties of this loss of concentration are the motorcyclists and bicyclists, who are unlucky enough to be involved in accidents with these motorists.
The last serious study into motorcycle crash causation was back in 1981. That study resulted in the Hurt Report, which helped develop several of the motorcycle safety regulations that have saved thousands of lives over the decades. However, the findings of the report have become obsolete, and there is an urgent need for a new study that will help stem this increase in fatalities.

Motorcyclist Seriously Injured on North Las Vegas Boulevard
Saturday, December 19, 2009
The Las Vegas Sun is reporting that a motorcyclist was seriously injured in a multi-vehicle accident on North Las Vegas Boulevard. According to the news report, the motorcyclist veered into oncoming traffic and struck 4 vehicles. He suffered serious injuries, and was taken to the University Medical Center. None of the drivers or passengers of the other 4 cars sustained injuries. The accident is being investigated. Police have currently no information about why the motorcyclist crossed into the opposite lane.
Motorcycle accident attorneys in Las Vegas have been disturbed about the increasing rate of fatalities in these crashes every year. Across the country, fatalities in motorcycle crashes have been increasing steadily, while fatality rates in other types of accidents have been declining. Nevada has been no exception.
1n 2008, 59 people were killed in motorcycle accidents here, an increase from 51 in 2007.
Motorcycle accidents typically result in some of the most serious injuries. While motorcyclists can reduce their risk of being killed or suffering head and brain injuries in a crash by wearing an approved helmet, headgear may do nothing to protect from blunt force trauma injuries, fractures, amputations, and spinal cord injuries that can severely impact a person’s health and mobility.
Injured motorcyclists may be eligible for compensation, including damages for medical bills, pain and suffering as well as lost wages. However, for your Las Vegas motorcycle accident lawyer to file your claim successfully, it’s important that you document all records that show the extent of your injuries. If there were witnesses to the accident, note down their phone numbers if you are able to. Note down traffic and weather conditions at the time of the accident. Retain all copies of medical expenses, including hospital records, therapy bills, and other medical expenses. If you have lost days from work because of your injuries, you will need proof of this to claim compensation for these lost wages. In case of serious injuries where an individual’s future wages may also suffer, your Las Vegas motorcycle accident attorney will also calculate future lost wages.
